OUR 21 PILOT SNAPSHOT:

  • Became first Nonprofit in NJ to provide FREE Mobile Showers

  • Provided over 100 Showers during 3 month pilot

  • Place 7 guests in housing (through partners)

  • Refer over 20 guests to wraparound services

  • Give out 89 care packs and 57 pair of socks

it is almost impossible to gain access to one of the most vital tools necessary for change: hygiene. Being properly groomed is an essential element of our daily regimen; it promotes health, confidence, and the ability to engage in meaningful social interactions. Jobs, assistance programs, and positive human connections are extremely difficult to sustain as each day inevitably brings dirt, sweat, and a lack of dignity if you find yourself facing homelessness.

Providing showers to our homeless community is not only a public health/emergency service but also a great tool of empowerment. When folks exit our unit it’s fair to say they are a whole new person. Fresh out of the shower, guests meet with partnered social working agencies and feeding partners to experience a truly comprehensive service experience.

we are brimming with ideas to bring to Newark and New Brunswick in 2022. The Mobile Hygiene Unit will continue to act as a beacon for those seeking (and providing) social services; but also for companionship, conversation, and friends.

Our MHU Team expertly leverages the following to improve lives and outcomes for our homeless guests:

  • Free independently lockable showers, toilet, and sink access

  • Free socks every time a guest joins us for a shower

  • Fresh, laundered towels for each guest (just like a spa)

  • A cell phone charging station for those who are waiting

  • Partnered services on site to provide housing, feeding, legal services, and more.

ARM believes a special sauce isn’t special when it comes to human services, this is what sets us apart.

CONSISTENCY - We serve every week, at least once a week, for each site we commit to.

DIGNITY - We do our best to maintain the same quality of service we would expect at a spa or gym shower.

OUTCOMES - A shower is great, but we want to make sure our guests on our their way to self-sustainability and contentions - however they define that. This is why we maintain relationships with local partners to ensure we can refer and advocate for the right services for our guests.
